Every year now the main classical music channel on national radio runs a fantastic scheme for schools to access. It’s usuallyc alled Ten Pieces. They have chosen ten really famous pieces of classical music for schools to break children in to appreciating the genre where there would be a natural reluctance to even think about it, let alone sit still long enough to hear some. I sit with baited breath awaiting the announcement of the 2019 selection. Previous ones have been very successful and many a youngster finds they actually recognise and already like onr or two of a batch. Their late start to loving music can be easily enhanced by online music courses. These can really bring to life the point of music – playing, and just as importantly, learning to listen to it and understand it!
