It must be said that the ear is a truly excellent piece of eqipment for learning music. You have to use ears to hear and eventually you can tell the difference between notes, tones, colours, tempo etc. One thing that an ear can’t teach you though is scales, music theory and all the information you need to receive up front before the sounds you hear make much sense. Online music education courses have really improved at a fantastic rate. My daughter has always excelled at music – baby recorder giving way to ukelale and guitar. Then they soon got abaondoned for the violin and clarinet. All through this stage, a good e-training scheme would have benefitted her greatly with the theory side. They’re wonderfully encouraging and I would urge all parents, guardians and music tutors to research and find the best for their particular student. Music aids all learning – calming, inspiring, cheering them on.
