I was visiting a very ancient relative in her care home the other week. It’s pretty daunting most times as conversation can swing wildly between few unhappy grumps to almost hysterical mirth & joy. I have often found my aunt singing quietly to herself when I’ve approached her room. This is a sign that we are going to have a happier time . . . and recently I was able to take her up to the top lounge where a visiting entertainer was about to do a little concert for the residents. I knew this would be a success as his choice was ’50s and 60’s crooner tunes. The chap introduced himself and explained that he had done basic music at school but had beefed this up with online courses at home to improve his music theory and had studied further how to appreciate various styles of music presentation. He’d also taken online training on how to put together a programme discussing what to include and why.
