As took and thoroughly enjoyed lesson in piano playing rather late in life. Once I’d stopped work and could afford this luxury. Many years of helping someone else to achieve mini greatness in three instruments had been a joy. I always had wanted to learn to play something and almost had the chance to learn the clarinet as a youngster – the metal work teacher at school who also took music lessons had been quite a player in his day. I was very much a dreamer in class. Never good at concentrating, but in music I followed every note, sang every line offered. One day we were listening to a recording of a well known classic piece and I was absent mindedly conducting with my ruler. Mr. S was deeply impressed with my efforts and suggested I stand up and do it for the class. Big mistake – the shy bug hit me full on and I couldn’t. He offered music lessons but my parent couldn’t see the benefit and couldn’t afford them. Sadly!
