About RDMS

Established in 1992, Russ Davies Music Schools have been teaching beginners to advanced musicians to help improve their playing skills. As the longest serving music tuition service in the city of Plymouth, RDMS has plenty of experience in this line of teaching, though offers the opportunity for traditional based learning as well as modern style tuition.

In 1972, Russ Davies began his teaching career at the Royal Marines School of Music, Deal, Kent. Upon leaving the service he taught at the Dartington College of Arts, and then took up a teaching post with the Cornwall Music Service. Following this, he set up his own teaching studio in Ivybridge in 1992, expanding to Plymouth in 1995. Russ Davies holds the LTCL Teachers Diploma and LTCL Performers Diploma. Here at RDMS, we still maintain the same high level of tuition which was provided in the early years of the establishment.

Our exam results are second to none, with a 100% pass rate over the past 15 years with over 2700 students. However, exams are not seen by the tutor as a complete necessity for the student’s learning - whilst it is usually guided, students are not obliged to partake in any exams they do not wish to be involved in.
